We were invited to do a presentation to rooms 4 & 6 at Taradale Intermediate on Thursday, what a great experience! The idea behind the presentation was to talk about following your dreams and passion, and specifically how we did that to get to where we are now.
Part of our business philosophy revolves around giving back to the community and we thought it would be a great chance to inspire the next generation of animators, designers and artists!
Admittedly we were a bit nervous, but the kids loved it from start to finish! We showed them some of our early stuff from our school days, gave some hands on tips for getting their drawing skills up, and a live demonstration of Sophie doing a quick sketch, as well as a bunch of examples and stories about what we do as graphic designers!
Great fun, and I think we gave a real boost of encouragement to a few young aspiring artists!

Well what a busy week we have had!
We held our first exhibition last weekend which was a big achievement for us, we are really starting to make our mark now.
The weather that had been flooding and destroying other parts of the country stayed quite mild for us, which was great. Sunday especially saw us inundated with people.
I love winter. Wrapping myself in big thick scarf’s, wearing layers of cool fashion styles and drinking hot cups of Tea!
My computer enjoys the colder atmosphere too (the Hawke’s Bay summer can be pretty hard on 100% CPU load)
Our whole studio (and our lives by proxy) have been in ‘the zone’ over the last few weeks as we get everything together for our upcoming Blue Exhibition, this is exciting times for all of us.
We have been living double lives, with the everyday running of the business as well as preparation for the exhibition.
I have been busy trying to do another few pieces of concept art, Sophie has been working on some epic pieces and Clare has been putting a lot of time into some amazing looking acrylics as well as organising a lot of the logistical stuff for the exhibition. Read the rest of this entry »
One of the first things I learned during my study was that visual artists and designers are responsible for the way the world looks. From Architecture to product packaging, it has all been designed by someone. Even our views of history are often based on paintings or photographs.
Therefore using visual mediums is an important way to get idea’s across.

QT as some would call him, a great director and writer, oft credited with chaperoning the post-modernism art movement (PoMo) into Hollywood. While contemporaries stuck to their art house niche Tarantino hit big with 1994’s “Quarter pounder with cheese” Pulp Fiction. I have a lot of time for Quentin Tarantino, this is an essay I put together that talks about post-modernism, visual language, conceptual imaging & contemporary themes relating to his works.
Enjoy.
